April 2018, Google announced several new exciting features for Gmail. In addition, to the seven new features added, some improvements to the user interface have been rolled out as well.
You can review the most recent new Gmail features below:
There is now quick access to hover actions for each email in your Gmail Inbox. You can hover over these icons for one-click access to the most common email functions including: Delete, Archive, Snooze and Mark as Read. Below is an example:
New Right Side Panel
The right-side panel UI has been improved and provides easy access to your Calendar, Tasks and new email composition etc. The new side panel includes a expandable/collapsible tool that makes managing your email easier!
High Priority Notifications
Now you can customize your notifications and let Gmail know which ones are high priority. With high priority notifications you can chose which contacts will trigger push alerts and which contacts will not. This feature can help prevent push notification interruptions from contacts that haven’t been marked as high priority. On desktop you can display your email so that threads from high priority contacts are on top.
Now you can snooze your emails. Similar to your alarm clock, snoozing an email postpones this message for the amount of time you choose. Once the snooze period has elapsed the message will then become available for your review.
Users of the Gmail Inbox app and also Gmail for Mobile have had this feature for some time and now smart replies are also available for Gmail on desktop. Basically once you click ‘Reply’, Gmail will provide you at least three suggestions of common responses that you can use for quick responses back to your friends and associates.
Plus Mentions provide a new cool way of adding CC recipients to your emails. Similar to how you might mention someone on Twitter, once you begin typing a name of someone that is in your contacts or the current email thread, you can click the + sign to add this person to the CC field of the email.
You can now configure customizable hovercards for all of the contacts in your address book.
